Statement regarding President Erdoğan’s meeting with US President Trump

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in The Hague to attend the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit, met with President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America.

The meeting addressed bilateral relations between Türkiye and the U.S., as well as regional and global issues.

Stating that both countries have great potential in various fields, especially in energy and investment, President Erdoğan noted that particularly enhancing cooperation in the defense industry would facilitate the achievement of the 100 billion-dollar total trade volume target.

Welcoming the ceasefire reached between Israel and Iran through the efforts of U.S. President Trump, President Erdoğan expressed his hope for it to be lasting and also emphasized the importance of close dialogue in ending the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza as well as in finding a peaceful solution to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

As NATO’s leading Allies, the two leaders stressed the importance of strengthening the Alliance’s deterrent power.
